Ingersoll watches have been around for a
long time. Originally, they were meant to be a very affordable
watch for the working class. The first Ingersoll was a pocket
watch that cost just $1. It was agreed that there was a need
for a watch that the common man could afford with just one
day’s pay. Today, the brand has come a long way and
is one of the most widely known brand in the world; Timex.
In 1880, the first Ingersoll watch was made. 21 year old
Robert Ingersoll and Charles Ingersoll saw that there was
a void in the watch market. There was no one catering to those
that couldn’t afford to spend a mint on a watch. So,
with an idea, the Ingersoll brand of watches was born. The
Ingersoll Company was actually the Waterbury Watch Company
first. It then later became owned by the US Time Company,
which later became what is today, Timex.
The vintage Ingersoll watches included models of pocket watches.
The models included: Boy Scout watch, Nurses watch and the
original Yankee watch. The Yankee watch was the dollar watch
sold by the company. These watches served as more of a functional
timepiece than a luxurious jewelry piece. The watches of Ingersoll
have gone ion to become collector’s items.
